Looking Beyond A Jobs Salary - Walrath Recruiting, Inc.

Looking Beyond A Jobs Salary - Walrath Recruiting, Inc. When you begin a job search, salary is one of the first things considered, which makes sense! Having a job with a salary pays for living expenses, food, gas, and everything else we need to function. However, its easy to get sucked into the continual pursuit of more and more money, sometimes at the cost of  finding the right job. Today were offering an alternate perspective of where to focus in your job search. Read below for more! Seeing $tars Its certainly easy to focus on money in your career. Making sure youre compensated appropriately for your expertise and skills is more than expected. However, if you chase a higher salary from job to job, you may still find yourself unfulfilled with your position. Even when youve achieved a salary goal, you may feel as if youre missing something. Lets break this down. If youre working a full time job, that typically means 8 hour days, and 40 hour weeks, and sometimes even more. However, well be optimistic, and say you work 40 hours a week at maximum. There are 52 weeks in a year, which means for every year of your life, you spend 2080 hours working that job. So if you stay in that job for 10 years, that means youve dedicated 20,800 hours of your life to those responsibilities. So what do all the numbers mean?  That is a lot of hours to be working  only to look forward to a paycheck. If focusing on salary has left you unhappy, you may have to shift your focus somewhat. Origins of a Job Hopper Its certainly okay to establish salary goals and focus on what you want to earn. However, its also important not to lose sight of other aspects of the job. Benefits are also important: healthcare, paid time off, holidays, company lunches, etc can help make those hours manageable. In addition to more tangible benefits, finding your work rewarding and enjoyable also enables you to enjoy the time spent, instead of only looking forward to a paycheck. The people you work with and the work you do greatly impact how you feel from day to day. If this isnt present, you may find yourself hopping from to job. And no hiring manager likes a job hopper. Focusing solely on salary will likely leave you feeling somewhat unfulfilled, and looking for a higher salary elsewhere. That combination will lead you to jumping from job to job. Initially it will help you increase your salary, but sometime down the road it will hurt your job search. When a hiring manager sees a resume with a lot of movement, it makes them skeptical of hiring that individual. From a hiring standpoint, it doesnt make sense to invest the time, money, and resources to bring on someone new who may leave in only a few months. This can hurt your job search, so a more tactful and broadly focused approach will be much more rewarding. Building a Rewarding Career As weve discussed  previously, your career is something that takes up 86 full 24-hour days for every year of your life. Thats a  significant chunk of time, so its important to consider more than just salary when it comes to your career. Focusing more broadly on your job search while thinking of salary, benefits, fulfillment, satisfaction, and enjoyment  will lead you to a better job, and more rewarding career.
